With only 4 courses this semester I am ready to dig in and finish the semester already. As expected, things are fast paced and expectations are high. Heres a tid bit of info for each class:
1. ANATOMICAL FUNDAMENTALS - This morning I welcomed 8am classes back into my life. Better yet, anatomy class. Thankfully, I have an amazing lecturer and this makes 8am and the million bits of information not so bad. Interestingly labs will be a different experience as we are given the opportunity to learn from the use of human cadaver material. Tons of thanks goes out to the families of loved ones who donated their bodies for the purpose of scientific research.
2. INTRO TO SPEECH PATH PRACTICE - This class is going to be fantastic with only 28 GEMS (Graduate Entry Masters). We are bound to learn exuberant amounts and our lecturer is again terrific! You can sense her enthusiasm and love for speech pathology in everything she talks about. My class is composed of a wide variety of different disciplines from music to sciences we have it all. I enjoyed meeting everyone and learning their story.
3. ADVANCED RESEARCH PROCESSES - Stats!!! Just when I thought I was done with these. This class was dreadful this afternoon. At 4:05pm I was already hearing BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. After another hour and 45 minutes I still only heard BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. This classroom was scorching hot and the lecture theatre completely full [We will be taking this course with all rehab disciplines (OT, PT) along with anyone doing honours thesis or further statistical analysis]. It has a number of "exciting" expectations but the one defining number was my final being worth 60% of my grade. So much to my dismay, I better begin listening better. AKA, coffee is a necessity on the way to this class.
4. PHYSIOLOGY - Phys was my directed study elective. All of the Canadians GEMS are enrolled in this class. Again, we will be taking this course will other disciplines - undergrads, OT, PT, etc. This class also includes a practical component.
In general, being back at school has been more difficult than expected. Not work load wise but attention wise. It is really hard to go from being busy and actually interacting with humans to sitting in a desk listening to lectures all day. I will be praising the day I get my school 'groove' back. Otherwise, the Speech Path program here is spectacular. The staff are world renowned, friendly & approachable. That alone makes the transition ten times easier. I look forward to learning and to completing the 'hard stuff' [anatomy and physiology] first so that fun stuff [more specific speech path electives] can come later! With all this being said, it is almost 8pm and I am exhausted and ready for bed.
