The past few days have been great! I have met many people and enjoyed taking in Brisbane. Between orientations I have been on the hunt for a place to rent. Yesterday, with a missed bus stops (because you are just suppose to always know what station is next) I managed to look at a few places. Neither locations were practical or had the best set up. Therefore, I am continuing the hunt. Otherwise, I have been busy waiting in lines for student ID, textbooks, OSHC… the list goes on.
Today, I slept in and enjoyed relaxing (I may slightly be a tad jet lagged). I then toured the campus again and tried to get more comfortable. It is so massive. I am positive in 3 weeks I will wonder how I could ever get so lost but currently finding anything is such a daunting task.I then viewed a place with the most ideal location (less than 5 minutes from the Uni) along with the fact that it is brand new and fully furnished. However, many people have viewed the property. Hopefully, she enjoyed my enthusiasm and Canadian charm. Along the way it began to drizzle. I didn’t think much of it and then it began to pour. I got so drenched that I was dripping when I arrived at the property. I viewed the place and then walked home in more rain. The odd thing was it didn’t even look like it was going to rain. Ironically, all Aussies (I am presuming) pulled out an umbrella instantly. It was just me, the silly international girl, who didn’t have one. Note to self: purchasing an umbrella on my next stop to the shopping centre. However, I had a bit of a laugh while soaking wet, if the worst it gets is rain, I am so in love with winter. I can definitely handle being soaked from head to toe versus being freezing and pelted with snow.

This evening I met up with some other Canadian students also taking their Masters at UQ. We went to Vapiano’s - one of my favourite past time places from when I was in Australia previously. We enjoyed our Italian meals and some of us also enjoyed a glass of wine. Afterwards, a few of us ventured across the river to the good food and wine festival. The landscape was beautiful and the atmosphere enthralling. We took in the beauty and enjoyed perusing around. I then went to the nearest bus station and got myself home (without the help of my phone)! Yah me! I am slowly learning.
3 Aussie Life Lessons Learnt During 3 Days:
- You swipe your “go pass” when getting on and off a bus. If not the consequences cost you $9 AUD.
- Buy an umbrella. Have it handy. You will need it.
- When the traffic light says walk, RUN.
