Well, well, well it's a mystery to me how I am even writing this post. I am so exhausted from this week and currently in survival mode. It's also 3pm and I have poured myself a complimentary "congrats on making it through this week" glass of red wine. This week has been something from another planet. On top of regular lectures I have had two anatomy practicals, an anatomy quiz, a physiology practical, a physiology assignment and quiz, speech clinic and the dreaded and ever procrastinated LITERATURE REVIEW. Let's just state that current Melissa is really unhappy with past Melissa. Past Melissa was suppose to write her literature review over the mid-semester break, mhmmm, yup, then. Whatever the case, it is finished and handed it. It has something to do with transcranial direct current stimulation and the effects on language function in post-stroke aphasia patients. Yeah, don't worry, I was also lost at transcranial. The topic is soooo unattractive to me and the entire thing was a struggle to research and write. All that got me through was the whole "this is 40% of your final grade" section of my course outline. Big thanks goes out to my mom who always read through all of my "well-written" work and gives me the greatest advice, especially those grammar tips! For some unfortunate reason I never inherited her exceptional grammar skills. Let's hope I convinced someone I know how to review literature.
Looking back on last weekend I actually had a life on Friday night. The ARTS UQ presented their first ever theatrical showcase "Once Upon A Stage". It was absolutely phenomenal and I am super glad I decided to go. I was laughing basically the entire time! Then this month is Oktoberfest in Brisbane and without doubt having a pint of beer was necessary. It was nice to get out of the house for something other than school and us girls might have had a little too much fun!! Saturday my life went back to school and specifically that lit review. Again, on Sunday I had my second yoga class. My views on yoga may slightly be changing. I will of course make a concise decision at the end of the 4 weeks. |
FINALLY I get to introduce you to my amazing speech pathology class! With the exception of one lovely lady we managed to snag a group photo after clinical on Wednesday! I would say the second picture depicts our personalities a little better than the first. These guys and gals are the greatest and I can not imagine getting through this first semester without them! Together we struggle through anatomy, statistics, speech and for the unlucky few of us physiology.
Looking ahead, things are not slowing down. It is the final two weeks of classes and everything is piling up, including my to-do list which has now turned into a "take this day by day" list. In other words, I can't even think about Tuesday because first I have to get through Monday. Currently, my alarm goes off anywhere between 6 and 7am each day. If I can actually get myself out of bed at 6am I will go for a run. If I can't fit a run in the AM then I have been trying to get home 40 minutes earlier from the library to run before supper. I have also added some incline running (not hard around this area, it's full of treacherous hills) and my legs are feeling the burn. But it is a must since S and I have signed up for a 15km ocean race after exams are finished! It's the perfect goal to keep me active and taking breaks during the final few weeks and exam period. With the end nearing, my last final exam is on November 20th, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Afterwards, I am seriously going to enjoy laying out in the sun, doing absolutely nothing but getting a tan and relaxing. So the countdown is on until I can finally say audios UQ HELLLLLLO summer/winter break.
Now I must go and get ready for this evening. It is my roommate birthday! I am so very, very thankful for her! Not only is she a wonderful roommate but the greatest friend! She is definitely the reason I have had tons of fun since arriving in Australia! I'm sure we will all have too much fun again this evening! But, before I can have fun my room NEEDS some serious TLC, and the cupcakes I baked late last evening need icing!
I hope everyone has a splendid weekend!
