Wow! I am so sorry to everyone who has been waiting for an update! My life has been chaotic and crazy! I'm back to being "student busy" and I did not miss it! I have currently completed 2 out of 3 of my mid-semester exams this semester. It has been a real challenge finding appropriate and efficient study habits that don't take over my life. Before I began this program I vowed that I would not become bookworm crazy like in Lethbridge. This meant I would take time for myself: running, friends, reading, social outings, baking, that kind of stuff, stuff that normal human beings do. Well I am doing better, but hardly! My last run was almost two weeks ago until tonight. Which leads to yet another story. I will save that one for later. Either way, I have been living in the library, studying until all hours of the night and getting little to no sleep. Today, after my anatomy lecture exam I came home and crashed! My body was and is completely done. However, on the plus side the two exams I have written went well. Surprisingly, I came out of Physiology smiling. As per Anatomy I came out just glad it was completed. All that is left is the practical exam for Anatomy on Thursday, my very first bell ringer, how exciting... The exam on Thursday will be the completion of my mid-semester exams which obviously needs to be followed by a celebration at the on-campus bar. Then this weekend is already my birthday! Therefore, I plan to eliminate school from my schedule on Saturday and Sunday, enjoy the weekend and the weather.
Quickly, before I go to bed I will share a story that is bound to make you laugh. Another one of those "Mel" moments. Having lived in Brisbane for almost 2 months now I presumed I was beginning to understand the suburbs and my way around. Therefore, I didn't need my phone on this run, I would just take my iPod and house key. Tonight, I began running my regular path to the river along Coronation Drive. Usually, I just turn around and run back home, but today I felt adventurous. I had been along the other side of the river, Southbank and West End, now a few times. It seemed so simple to cross the Southbank bridge and run along the West End side of the river and then take the Uni bridge to the UQ campus and then home. What could possibly go wrong? Well I had never ever ran or walked the entire way from the West End into St Lucia. Turns out, the path along the river ends and you have to follow roads to the pedestrian bridge that would take me across the river back to the Uni. I seriously thought I had a sense of direction, turns out I don't. I ended up around High Gate Hill area - exactly in the wrong direction. Thankfully, I made in back down to Southbank where J lives. I unexpectedly showed up at his apartment crossing my fingers that he would be home! As luck would have it, he was and being the kind person he is, he drove me home so I didn't even have to take public transit! I am seriously very thankful as I was already at 13km. If I had to run home from Southbank I would have been at a total of 18-19km. In which case my legs would not be moving tomorrow since I have not been routinely running. Long story short, I will never run without my phone, choose to be super adventurous without pre planning my route and I plan to hop back on that routine train and begin training again.
Let's see if I can make these changes before my next post! Hope all is well with everyone back home! I miss everyone dearly and can't believe it has already been two months! With my mid-semester break around the corner I plan on staying in Brisbane to catch up on school work and projects. That being said I will have some free time on my hands and plan to spend some time Skyping my family and friends back home! Oh, AND... tomorrow I have my FIRST CLINICAL PLACEMENT! I almost forgot to mention this month's most exciting news! I will be spending the day at the Royal Children's Hospital Brisbane!
Enjoy the few photos below! A quick glimpse into my life this month thus far! I should also note that September 1st was the first day of Spring in Australia! Trees are beginning to blossom and the weather has been wonderful! The temperatures are rising and I CAN HARDLY WAIT for SUMMER :)
Good Morning to the early Canadian risers and Good Night to my fellow Australians!
